Hepatectomy and arterial blood ketone-body ratio. I. Changes in arterial blood ketone-body ratio following massive hepatectomy in relation to blood concentration of energy fuels.

چکیده

The changes in energy charge of the remnant liver and ketone-body ratio (acetoacetate/3hydroxybutyrate) of arterial blood were examined in hepatectomized rabbits in relation to the blood energy fuels and the standard liver function tests. It is suggested that (a) the decrease in energy charge is the basis of the decreased hepatic functional reserve, (b) the chang巴 inenergy charge is accurately reflected by the change in blood ketone-body ratio and (c) the decreased blood ketone-body ratio is the basis of the sequential changes in the blood concentrations of fuels after hepatectomy.

Exogenous Ketone Supplement Ingestion And Submaximal Exercise Response in Trained, Male Cyclists: A Randomised, Double-blind Study

Background. The acute ingestion of ketone body supplements can improve exercise responses such as oxygen consumption and blood lactate. Additionally, ketone body supplements show increases in circulating βhb concentration, matching those of someone in a state of nutritional ketosis. Studies testing ketone body supplements have reported different results in exercise response and varying gastroin...

Ketone-body utilization by adult and suckling rat brain in vivo.

1. Ketone-body utilization in fed and starved adult and suckling rats has been investigated by measuring arterio-venous differences across the brain. Venous blood was collected from the confluence of sinuses and arterial blood from the femoral artery in adult rats and by cardiac puncture in suckling rats. 2. During starvation the arterio-venous difference of ketone bodies increased in proportio...

Metabolic abnormalities associated with postoperative organ failure. A redox theory.

We studied metabolic abnormalities of postoperative organ failure in 55 patients and classified them into four groups according to the postoperative changes in the arterial blood-ketone body ratio (acetoacetic acid-beta-hydroxybutyric acid) reflecting hepatic mitochondrial redox potential: patients in group A had no decrease below 0.7, patients in group B had a transient decrease to 0.4, patien...

Ketone-body metabolism after surgical stress or partial hepatectomy. Evidence for decreased ketogenesis and a site of control distal to carnitine palmitoyltransferase I.

Rats were subjected to laparotomy, or laparotomy and partial hepatectomy, at 0-48 h before administration of water or medium-chain-length triacylglycerol, having been starved post-operatively. Functional hepatectomies were performed at intervals after the intragastric load. Blood ketone-body concentrations after medium-chain triacylglycerol administration and/or functional hepatectomy of these ...

Ketone-body metabolism in tumour-bearing rats.

During starvation for 72 h, tumour-bearing rats showed accelerated ketonaemia and marked ketonuria. Total blood [ketone bodies] were 8.53 mM and 3.34 mM in tumour-bearing and control (non-tumour-bearing) rats respectively (P less than 0.001). The [3-hydroxybutyrate]/[acetoacetate] ratio was 1.3 in the tumour-bearing rats, compared with 3.2 in the controls at 72 h (P less than 0.001). Blood [glu...
